Several months ago I sent you a problem with TCL8.0 in which it traps with
a bus error when it (tclsh) is started with no standard input, ouptut, or
error (no file descriptors 0 through 2). We are running on HP-UX 10.20.
This problem can easily be reproduced by invoking the following little
script (called "x" here) with this Bourne Shell command line:

set f [open .profile r]

We have just downloaded your binaries for 8.0.3 and 8.0p2, and have found
that they still have this problem. Would you be able to give us an
indication of when this problem will be fixed? It is preventing us from
migrating to TCL 8, which, along with its increased functionality is also
Y2K compliant, because processes started from "/etc/inittab" in HP-UX do
not have open STDIO streams.

04/22/1999 11:13 - redman - check into the problem with 8.1.1. Should be able to work around the problem by redirecting /dev/null as stdin and stdout manually.

The description above leaves out one important fact:
From where is the script 'x' invoked so that it does
not have stdin/stdout/stderr ? (Or maybe the bourne shell
command line is missing from thereport).
