Hi,

I regret to say that I did not get a flood of replies, reviews or fixes 
after my last calls for help with the Jul20 Taurus release. Please note 
that the team at ALBA that used to do this is now reduced to... mostly me.

   So...


**This is a last desperate S.O.S. call for help with the Jul20 Taurus 
release.**


Wednesday is my last day before holidays, and I want to leave a testable 
release candidate). Therefore Tomorrow (Tuesday) is the last day for 
merging all the PRs pending to be integrated in the "ready for review" 
column in [1] .


I would very much prefer if someone else reviewed the PRs that I coded, 
but if that is not the case, I'll self-merge myself.


So, please, even if you are not an official "taurus integrator" please 
pick some PR from the "ready for review" column of [1], and leave a 
comment with your review of it.

Also, once the release candidate artifact is ready, please help with the 
manual release tests (see [2])

Here you can see a kanban table with "to-do", "in progress", "ready for 
review" and "done" columns.

Please do not be shy and take any task from the "to do" column , moving 
it to "in progress" to indicate that you are working on it.

Alternatively, just review a task from the "ready for review". After a 
satisfactory review, if you have permissions directly merge it,  and , 
if you don't  just report your review in a comment.

Any help would be much much much appreciated!

And of course, I'll be happy to help if you have any questions or need 
some help in fixing/reviewing a task (just use the comments in the 
issue/PR).

... meaning that we should hurry to get the release in time.

I've concentrated efforts lately in removing what I considered the main 
blockers for the new release: the unreliability of the test suite and 
the basic entry-point based plugins. With these two things cleared, I 
think that it is now easier to work on the remaining issues planned for 
the July20 milestone [1].

Still, unfortunately, it seems clear that we at ALBA won't have enough 
time to solve all the issues currently listed in [1]. Therefore I am 
making a call for help to the rest of the taurus community to try to fix 
as much of those issues as possible until the 14th of July (after that 
we should do the release tests and the release itself).

Please don't be shy!  ;)

[tauruslib-devel] New release of Taurus 4.6.1 (Jul19)

We are happy to announce the release of Taurus 4.6.1.

As a highlight, this release replaces all the previous CLI commands 
(taurusform, taurusplot, etc.) by a single command called "taurus" that then 
uses subcommands.

Also, it brings some "under-the-hood" changes to better support plugins, such 
as the taurus_pyqtgraph plugin that can now be downloaded from PyPI

This release also further consolidates python3 + PyQt5 as the environment of 
choice for new developments.

One detail regarding tests: we need to decide which combinations of python and 
Qt binding versions we test.

I propose to test  debian9 and win10 with python3 and PyQt5 (which will be the 
recommended configuration from now on). 
But also, because of the interest in supporting existing code that depends on 
the Qwt5-based plots and trends (e.g. , sardana 2.x) we should test in debian9 
(or some other platform) with py2 and PyQt4.

Hi,

The deadline for the next Taurus official release is getting closer. 

The issues selected for this release are marked with the Jul19 milestone:

We propose the following schedule:
 - From now till 2019-07-18: all issues of  Jul19 milestone should be closed. 
 - From 2019-07-18 till 2019-07-25: all manual release tests should be done.
 - Tentative release date: 2019-07-26

Any help in fixing/integrating the still open issues/PRs of this milestone 
would be appreciated. Also, if you think that some other issue /PR should be 
included in this release, please say so.

Regarding the tests, we propose to test at least on debian9 and win10, but of 
course, if anyone offers to test on other platforms it would be welcome.

Hi all, 

We are happy to announce the release of Taurus 4.5.1.

This release adds the long-awaited support for PyQt5 (and also PySide2 and 
PySide) as well as  for python3. 

While strictly speaking we still recommend python2 + PyQt4 for production 
environments, we encourage everyone to use PyQt5 since it is fairly tested 
(see the TEP18 docs for details). Likewise, we encourage to try Taurus with  
python3: there may still be glitches, but python3+PyQt5 is the preferred 
combination in our development environment, so any bugs will likely receive 
priority.

[tauruslib-devel] Python 3 support (beta) in Taurus 4.5.0-alpha

Hi all, 

We are happy to announce that, with the merging of Pull Request #703 [1], the 
*develop* branch of Taurus is now supporting python3 as well as python2 (more 
specifically, we now support python 2.7 and 3.5 or greater) .

Note that, for production environments, **python 2.7 is the only recommended 
version to be used with Taurus** since the **python 3 support is still not 
ready for production** , but we encourage our users and developers to try it 
out and report any bugs found to help us making it stable ASAP.

We have done extensive tests to try to avoid introducing regressions for our 
python2 users but of course we may have missed something. As usual, please 
report any regressions found.

The develop branch will be the base for the next official release (scheduled for 
Jan 19), so please help us to get this as mature as possible by testing your 
Taurus-based applications with the latest develop branch using both python2 
and python3 (if possible) and reporting not only problems but also successes.


Of course, thanks to everybody involved in this development.

We are preparing the "Jul18" release of Taurus (to be released hopefully 
before the end of this month).

You can see the issues marked to be included in the release in [1] (both the 
still open ones and those already closed). Of the ones that remain open, we 
(at ALBA) will prioritize the integration of the already submitted PRs [2].

Please don't be shy: if you think you can help in solving something from [1], 
just leave a comment in the corresponding issue/PR (this goes both for the 
official integrators and for anyone else from the community)

satellite to the Tango Meeting. It will take place in parallel to the 
Tango Steering Committee Meeting on 5th of June 8:30 - 12:30. Due to the 
limited time it will be mainly focused on reviewing and demonstrating 
the recently introduced features and changes in both projects. You can

Hi,

According to our release schedule, we are already late in making the "Jan18" 
official release of Taurus.

We intend to release ASAP (hopefully in the first half of this month). 
You can see the issues marked to be included in the release in [1] (both the 
still open ones and those already closed). Of the ones that remain open, we 
(at ALBA) will prioritize the ones with PRs already submitted [2].

The main blocker is the TEP17 (support for pyqtgraph) [3], and we will do a 
big effort to move it to a stage where we can approve the TEP prior to the 
release.

If you think that you can help in some way or that some other specific issue 
should/can be closed before this release, please say so.

According to our release schedule, we should make an official 
release  of Taurus during next month. 

Here at ALBA we have done a quick screening of the open issues and PRs and we 
selected those which we would like to push forward for the coming release. We 
marked them by adding them to the Jul17 milestone [1] and we will work on them 
in the next weeks (prioritizing those with already existing PRs). If you think 
that some other specific issue should/can be closed before this release, please 
say so (or, even better, do a Pull Request)  ;)

According to our release schedule, we should make an official 
release  of Taurus during this month. Also, in order to be ready for 
inclusion in Debian9, we are planing to release around the end of next 
week.

For Jan17 we will have basically a bugfix release of based on the current 
develop version of taurus (4.0.3-alpha). The current status of the Jan17 
milestone can be checked at [1]. 

During next week we will try to close the still-open issues from [1]. If you 
think that some other specific issue should/can be closed before this release, 
please mention it (or, even better, do a Pull Request)  ;)

If it is just about accessing the *existing* label widget, you can do it with

f[0].labelWidget()

... and then you can call setText, or whatever

If you want to set a different label widget, you can't directly set the
widget, but you can do it by setting the class with:

f[0].setLabelWidgetClass(MyLabel)
