I just downloaded the 4.3.4 update, and saw a SourceForge notification that -- as of today, 31 Jan 2015 -- TaskUnifier is no longer being developed. Does this mean the program is dead, and we are henceforth on our own? (I've suspected this day might be coming, as I've sent multiple help requests over the last few months, and none have gotten any response. That had never happened before.) Does anyone know whether Benjamin is still working on the program? Or should we all just plan to use the program on our own, and/or switch to something else?

I have found benjamin very responsive and one of the changes in this download fixes a problem i've been having with sorting.

i did email him and ask his the same question: "since task unifier pro was now free, i hoped that wasn't bad news.
he confirmed it was bad news and here is his reply:

    Hi Jesse,

    Unfortunately, it is.
I can’t continue working on TaskUnifier as I did before.
TaskUnifier will soon be declared as « not maintained anymore », even if I might still fix some important bugs.

    Best regards,

    Ben

Fixes the sorting problem we discussed so many thanks.

Am worried when I see that you're giving away the pro version. I hope that isn't bad news as your application is awesome and one of my daily goto tools.

    Kind Regards
    Jesse

MY COMMENT: i'm going to go ahead continue using it as long as i can -- but will start looking for a backup transition plan to something else.

maybe the source code can be put in public domain and we can find someone to pick up the slack.

As for goingfoward Other than bugs, the biggest problem in my case is is when toodledo changes their API or their permissioning-- then we will have no synchronization. That will be a bad day for me.

I agree -- once synchronization ceases, it will be a bad day. I will be very sad to lose TU at that point. It is an awesome tool indeed!

I honestly don't know what I will do when I can no longer use Task Unifier. It has become THE program that has helped me cope with life and keep on top of everything. I have been using the Pro version and being able to sync with my phone has been invaluable.
My concern is when it can no longer sync - could we possibly pay to keep the sync facility working when it is changed by Toodledo ?
Also thanks for all your help in the past and for programming the best organiser currently available.

Me too! I paid for the Pro and now it's FREE. I use this program regularly and recommend it as often as possible. The synch is my only problem as well.

Maybe some good soul will see the worth and pick up the slack..

Very sad. If any comes up with replacement recommendations, please let us know. I can't image you will, but just in case...

I have tried almost every other todo list program and Task Unifier is streets ahead of all the others. I also hope that we are able to keep the synch feature in the future, even if development ceases on other functions. To be honest it already has all the features I need and I have never had any problems with the software.

Me too! I also tried over the years many different todo software and never found all the functions, I was looking for. Finally I found Task Unifier about a year ago and was really happy. The center of my life is Task Unifier and no sync anymore sometime in the future.
Do not know, what to do. Any suggestions? I do not know any...

I would happily pay 20 dollars / year subscription fee to keep this terrific application going. If we could identify a solid group of users who feel the same way, perhaps that would be an incentive for another developer to take on maintenance and development? I really do not want to go back to Outlook if I can avoid it! Let me know by reply message if you would be interested in exploring this option.

I would be interested in knowing what suggestions Benjamin has to keep this software alive

I would be prepared to pay a small annual fee to keep the synch feature

I too would pay for maintaining the sync option, even if I payed for the Pro version earlier.

I've just seen OrganiTask too will be closed. And came to an idea: could the mainenance of the sync option be supported via crowd-funding? Would Benjamin agree to try that?

I as well would pay more than $20/year to keep taskunifer around.
But I can't assume that benjamin monitors this forum regularly -- probably need to ping him directly if we want to wrest some development maintenance time from him.

The only other desktop solution with toodledo synch i've seen but haven' tried but probably will do soon unless someone else has feedback to the contrary is desktoptodo which is at www.desktoptodo.com

BTW on android i use "ultimate todo list" which i've found to be as powerful and flexible as taskunifier but it's a mobile app -- it doesn't solve my desktop problem, but would make-do in a pinch if i had to.

If i had to go back to outlook i'd synch with toodledo using gsyncit by fieldston which i've found to be a great sync tool for my android phone/calendar and with toodledo/outlook tasks.

There is a problem with start dates in the version of outlook that I use, but otherwise gsynchit has worked and was working for me before i got turned on to taskunifier.

I'm using "Pocket Informant" from WebIS on Android and synching with Task Unifier on Windows desktop via Toodledo. Previously, I used Outlook on the desktop and synched via Gsynchit as mentioned by Anonymous above.

The suggestion I made earlier about transferring the project to another developer was based on the assumption that Benjamin is no longer able to devote the time. I would be interested in supporting an open source approach to maintenance and development or crowd-sourcing the funding to compensate an individual developer. Will see if I can ping Benjamin to get his comment.

    Hi,

Just came across this thread as I had some free time...
Thanks for your support and your "understanding".

I decided to stop the development because I had no time to do it anymore.
The second reason is that the number of new pro subscriptions was slowing down since a long time already.
The last reason is a recent change in Belgian's financial laws which make selling software in Europe so difficult from an accountancy point of view that it is isn't even worth continuing selling it. Thanks to our government...

Anyway, I knew that would happen one day, and this is the day.
This was first a personal project, which quickly grew up and was interesting and challenging for me. But now I think it is time for me to move on.

For those who asked "what is a major bug", I would say that if a change in the API of Toodledo prevents the sync in TaskUnifier, and it is not too hard to fix, I could still fix it.
But there won't be any new features for sure nor any cosmetic fixes.

The whole source code has been made available since a couple of months.
Only some files are private, like API codes to Toodledo. But if someone wants to continue the development, I can send those files.

The project called "TaskUnifierExe" contains a small how-to file with enough explanations to build TaskUnifier and create new versions.

Benjamin - I would just like to join the others in this thread in thanking you for a great product. (I have used it for several years after trying out so many others.) Because it is a personal project you have been so good with maintaining it - which is appreciated.

As suggested above - I hope TaskUnifier is able to be maintained. Even if it is by some alternative way - crowd sourcing either funding or expertise.

It would be such a shame for all your efforts over the past few years to disappear. It is a shame about Organitask. It was shaping up really well too.

    Good luck.

TU - an outstanding App by a dedicated programmer. Thank you so much Benjamin. Alternative: For Windows desktop and Toodledo, I've begun to use Blue Stacks with an Android App, Ultimate To Do. As a desktop client for Toodledo it works very well. I've been using it for several months and sync is virtually flawless and development is on-going. Just a suggestion for those looking for a desktop client to use with Toodledo.

Thank you again Benjamin - I was a happy user for many years. Good luck on your future projects.

Hi Benjamin, Could you send me the API codes? I'm not sure I have time to try and fix it, but https://sourceforge.net/p/taskunifier/bugs/442/ has unfortunately made it unusable for me and others.

ToDoList 6.9.6 - An effective and flexible way to keep on top of your tasks. Can you Sync TODOList with Toodledo?

I´ve just found out that task unifier is no longer supportet, and I'm quite desperate.
My hole business relies on TaskUnifier function. I really love this program
I´m specially dependent on highly customizable filters for views.
Does anybody found a decent replacement of Task Unifier?

    Hi Benjamin,

Thank you for this great application we are still using and we hope you will keep an eye on the synchronization if something ever changes at toodledo.
In the meanwhile, I would like to ask to all the other users, what they think about sending you a donation... Would that be somehow easier on your Belgian taxes?

I would recommend 10$ per year per user on a honour-based system..

What do you guys think about that?

    Pierre, StepNjump

I think this has been proposed before but would not solve the problem. I've stated before that I'd be happy to pay an annual subscription fee to keep the app going, either to Benjamin or some other developer who could support the code. If we could guarantee at least a few hundred users at $10 or $20 each per year, might that be enough to make it worthwhile for someone to take it on? What I don't know is whether there is a critical mass of users who would be willing to contribute. Perhaps we could organize an online vote to see how many positive responses we get?

Well, I know you suggested it. What I was adding to your post is that maybe, instead of charging a fee, it could be a simple donation. Maybe it would be handled differently for Benjamin's tax filing purposes..

    Here is a poll

If you guys want more options, let me know.
