I switched to XFCE on linux and everything worked except for the ability to open up links. I would get a Desktop Not Supported error. A bit of googling around I found the fix. You need to install the libgnome2-0 package. Once that is install, everything works perfectly. I figure this might be useful tidbit if someone wants to use the XFCE desktop.
