    Greetings,

First let me just say that TaskSwitchXP is one of the best tools available on sf.net. I use it all the time.

But there's one thing that would make it even more great: the ability to search.

I was thinking of something along the lines of the Winamp jump dialog (but not in a seperate dialog).

Initially, the entire list shows up, but as you type in the box, the list gets filtered (and you can use the up,down arrow keys to navigate the list).

    Please consider this,
    Thanks

Sorry for the delay in answering..

Nice, but I don't know how many people will have an interest in being able to filtering the ALT-TAB list by key words in window titles.. Currently only one "filter" is available - instance switcher... you simply presses Ctrl+Alt+Tab (or other key combination for "sticky" mode) and TSXP enumerates all windows of the foreground app (multiple windows of IE, etc).. You can also press Ctrl+Alt+[Shift]+Tab in 'normal' mode, than TSXP will jump to next instance. I think it's enough..

PS: Thank you for facetious remark abot TSXP... :))

I would support something like this, but instead of a search text input line, i would like the selection to move down the list as the match gets closer, i.e. typing 'e' goes to the first app starting with e (and maybe puts a little yellow cursor between e and the rest of that app's title), then 'f' goes to whatever starts with 'ef' and the little yellow line moves, etc.

I support the filter approach, like eclipse if you tried.
A text box on top, a list/tree at the center.
As you type in the text box, the list items will be filtered. If you press down arrow, the focus will change to list box, then you can use arrow key to select or search by typing.

The advantage of filter approach is you can filter the items (by title, or class), then select all or select some of them easily, to perform actions like close, tile...etc. But you can still use searching when the focus is on the list box.

      I also agree here.

It would be fantastic if TaskSwitchXP could integrate a simple 'Spotlight' type function to filter out running tasks in real time as you type (with a little textbox on the TaskSwitchXP screen).  As you type, the list of displayed tasks would shrink

Thank you for a good link.. ;))
I'll add like this to my TODO list for future versions...  but I think that it's useless for 99% users..

I thik that sorting by application and title are also useful.. and you can use Ctrl+Alt+A to mark all instances of selected app and then perform actions.

I think filter is very useful for users that open many windows, even without screenshot.
A real case is explorer, we often open many explorer windows and switch between them, it is quite difficult to locate the one we need (by taskbar, TSXP) because they all looks very similar. With filtering, we can type the folder name (explorer title shows folder name) until the list remains one item, then press enter without looking at the title or screenshot.

I wouldnt find useless at all!  Great option, imho.  Spotlight type search 'filter' is great interface.

      Hope you add it!

Well, so many suggestions by e-mail and here! I'll add a search engine similar to OSX "spotlight"... but not to current version! Today I'm working for bugfixes, stability and translations. I'll do it soon.. ;)

Excellent tool, Alexander! I'm definitely one of the 1% of users who would love to have this search functionality. And I think that if you implemented this feature you'd find that many more than 99% of TaskSwitchXP's users would eventually take advantage of it in some way or another.

I'd prefer to see the feature implemented like vim, Firefox, less, screen, etc. where "/" initiates a forward search and "?" initiates a reverse search from the currently selected item. A successful hit selects the matched item, ready for a "return" or "space" to activate it; and a subsequent "/" or "?" finds the next match in the appropriate direction (wrapping if necessary).

If I knew the first thing about Windows development, I'd give this a try myself, but I doubt I even have the tools to begin to try muddling. I'd be willing to put up a $100 bounty to whoever successfully implements this feature.
