All viewer panes are created with these main parts to them.

  • The toolbar hold features specific to the type of thing you are viewing. For example in categories viewer you can create new categories, in tasks new tasks etc.

  • The viewing pane has columns to allow for reading additional information about a specific item in the view.
  • These columns also help with sorting items for easier find.

Tasks Viewer

The Tasks Viewer is the meat and potatoes of Task Coach. This is where you will find all your tasks. You will see all the different states, dates, and other information you might want to add to the columns. The
task viewers tool bar has many features specific to the tasks viewer. You can create new tasks, new subitems, and create tasks from templates. You also have the ability to filter out tasks that are active, inactive, etc. By double clicking on a task you can easily open the task editing page.

There are two main ways to view the tasks.

Tree View

  • Tree view allows for viewing the tasks as folder and items within the folder. Its organized and you can follow a branch all the way down to a specific task.
  • Tree view allows you to have expandable folder so you can see as you need under one subtask.
  • Under view --> Tree Options you have 2 function which will allow you to expand or collapse all the tasks as needed.

List View

  • List View show you all the tasks as one large list of tasks. This view does give you information based off the subitems etc. I think this feature is mainly used in conjuction with filtering to allow for better viewing/finding tasks.

Categories

The categories viewer allows you to create categories, sub categories, edit, and delete. You also have the ability to filer/search the categories if needed. The very nice beneficial thing about the categories viewer is that it also allows you to filter the tasks in your Task Viewer by selecting the category. When selecting multiple categories it work as an OR statement any tasks with the selected categories will be displayed.

Effort

The effort viewer allows for you to track time. You can start tracking time to a selected task. You can also view all the effort for a given amount of time. For example you can see all the effort based off a day,
week or month. Like most viewers you also have the ability to search/filter and preferences with additional options for dealing with efforts.

Effort for one Task

This viewer allows you to track effort for a specific task. The way this work is that you select the task you want to view effort for in the main task viewer then you go to view-->new viewer-->effort for one task. This new viewer will be locked to the specific task you had selected at the time of creating the viewer. It doesn't automatically update when selecting new tasks in the task viewer.
