I have a fresh install of version 1.3.24 running under Windows 7 Home Premium. I have altered the default layout view (which was tasks on left and categories on right) so that I have 3 view panels: categories on left; tasks on top right and notes on bottom right. I haved saved the file. When I re-open the file it (usually) displays tasks on left; categories in top right and notes on bottom right. On one occasion it displayed tasks in top left; categories in bottom left and notes on right side. I have tried uninstalling and making sure that the .ini file and .tsk files are deleted and doing a fresh install but I get the same result. I am quite probably being a complete dork but I have tried all I know to no avail so would appreciate any advice. I attach my .ini file. Thanks .... Brian
Brian, my best guess from what you said: After adjusting layout, the .ini file doesn't get updated when you save the .tsk file; the .ini file is only updated when you quit the program. So make sure you set your layout and then quit. Then it should be back how you left it. But if you are still having trouble, then something is going wrong. Not sure what that is, perhaps some bug.
Best,
Aaron
Hi Aaron. Thanks for that. Have tried again. Changed layout. Quit program. Started up again and layout still not saved. Tried changing layout, quitting program, re-booting and restarting but still no joy i'm afraid. If it is a bug then I'm a tad surprised nobody else is reporting it which is what made me wonder if I was doing something stupid
Hi Again Aaron. This probably doesn't help but if I add new views to the display (then quit) the new views are 'saved' but what does not seem to be saved is the layout of the views. It almost looks like there could be some overall default position for each view (ie task is top left) which isn't being over-ridden
Could you please add some screenshots? (make sure to attach them at the Sourceforge site, not via e-mail.
Thanks
Hi Aaron
Here is first screenshot: Before.jpg is as I 'designed' it .... will send After.jpg in a sec
there is no attachment. You used the web interface for attaching?
Hi ... yep. I clicked the Add attachment link then the Browse button ... then double clicked my file in the browser window ... the file path and name are displayed in the box to left of browse button and I clicked post reply (at least that's what I thought I did) am trying again here
Hi Again ... second screenshot After.jpg is as it is displayed after quitting and restarting
strange, the e-mail indicated that there was indeed an attachment, but now I don't see it here. You did indeed use the website?

Absolutely am trying again with 2nd file After.jpg
Weird. testing myself
ok, I tried attaching but see nothing. Do you see any attachments?
Nope .. like I say I can't see any sign of any image files being attached ... is it a size issue perhaps?
Trying with a tiny image file ... not a relevant image just a test
Yes that is strange ... I'm using the web interface throughout this ... the first message I sent had the ini file attached and I can see that there is one attachment to that in the thread of messages. But if I look at the messages I sent with image files there is no record of any attachemnts yet I can't see that i did anything different
attachment test
Ok, this stinks and we should report a bug to SourceForge, but just tested: you can attach by editing the main ticket instead of attaching to a comment.
Sorry, gormless question but can't see how to edit main ticket
hmm, I thought maybe as the creator you would have access. I, as admin, have access. I guess you don't have an "edit" button on top next to the ticket title. Darn this is frustrating.
Let me just try to help anyway: if you make new viewers, they start as floating. When you drag them around there are little icons indicating how to drop them in place. When you do this, you can adjust the window layout. Currently, there is no way, I believe, to reliably leave them in certain places while being floating. Is that what you are doing? Leaving them floating?
You're right ... no Edit button. Anyway maybe it's the way I'm placing the viewers that is my problem as I more or less worked out how to do by trial and error. This is what I do. In the main display area under the main menu and tool bars I start off with just one viewer, in this case Categories. Next, from the menu I select, View, New Viewer and Task. This gives me a small floating Task viewer. When I move that floating viewer over the main display area little (navigational?) icons that disappear as soon as I stop movimg the floating viewer around (and release the mouse button). Frankly I have no ide what these icons represent and couldn't find anything that gave me any clues so this could well be where I'm going wrong. What I do is to float the new viewer (in this case the Task viewer) to the right, let it go and then double-click its title bar. It slots into place on the right hand side and I then slide the vertical margins to suit (so I have a narrow category viewer at the left and a wider task viewer to the right. I quit and restart and now I have 2 horizontal viewers with the task viewer at the top instead of 2 vertical viewers with the category viewer to the right. So I guess as I'm ignoring the little icons that display when the new viewer is floating that I'm doing somethin wrong (and yet what I an doing seems to work - after a fashion)
When you hover over the little guide icons when dragging a floating window, it is supposed to show you a colored area to indicate where the window will go.
Some of this is confusing. If you have two panes, then you can put the new pane in a relative place, it depends where you drag.
Try dropping the floating window onto the little icons that pop up. You'll see how it works. It may still take trial and error. See if you get what you're looking for and let us know if you can make it stable.
This is a place where certainly there are issues to improve, but it is, I think, mostly with the underlying wxWidgets, so we don't have as much control over that part of the program.
Cheers,
Aaron
Hello Aaron .. I now understand how the positioning icons work although it did take a few seconds to get it right ... at first it didn't seem to make any difference but I've done a complete unistall, cleaned the registry (just in case) and then re-installed and now when I drop everything where I want it, it does save my layout .... yippeee. Thanks very much for your patience and I feel as I have wasted your time a wee bit ... still it did seem to uncover a problem with uploading image files ... hey ho. Thanks again Brian
