#1689 XML writing and parsing problems on Win8

I was using 1.4.3 on Windows8.1 for about 3 years without problems.
Suddenly, my list of tasks became empty. I looked in the log file and there was an XML parsing error.
So I upgraded to 1.4.6 but problem remained.
So did a bunch of experiments and found that the xml was mangled (an half-empty <task line in the attached sample file).
I fixed it by hand and now the program can open the .tsk file and shows the list of tasks and also shows alerts about tasks. BUT, when I exit the program, there is a message that there are errors and see the log file.
I am able to open the .tsk file again without errors so I am not sure what is triggering the error message when I exit.
I have included the whole log file for my experiments.
