When I drop a task into another task, they dissapear. The worse is that they loose all the data associated. If i had been working for 2 months on a task, all the entries for those 2 months are lost.

    You probably aren't actually losing the tasks, they are just being filtered out. Perhaps you are hiding inactive tasks and you are dropping tasks just below, creating a dependency (the other task as a prereq)? Or perhaps you just don't have the tree expanded? Have you tried undoing successfully?

    Look at the stats bar at the bottom about how many tasks there are. When you drag and drop, it doesn't change the number of total tasks does it? Does it change the number marked as visible?

    One way I could investigate your situation: make an anonymized export via "Anonymise" in the Help menu and then attach it here so I may open it and look at your file to see what is going on.

    Hi, I do not have any filter set. The sequence of operations was:
    -create a subtask (called "new subtask)"
    -renamed it to "DONE"
    -Dropped 4 tasks into the subtask "DONE"
    I then realized that the "DONE" subtask didn't turn into a folder icon, it stayed round. And my four dropped task dissapeared.
    So I did an UNDO and the "DONE" substask chaged the name to "new subtask", but no 4 tasks back.
    The size of the file also became significantly smaller.

    I do not have anonymise, it is greyed out :(
    I do have other errors every time I open Task Coach. I attach the image (cannot copy and paste).
    Thanks
    P.S. I do not want to overload this error, but trying the things you asked me, I created two new subtask,s and they did not appear. The bottom bar correctly said 72 task visible and 74 total. The only way to make them appear was to save as a new file, and then they appeared (before saving the upper bar was * instead of the name of the file)

      Sorry you're having so much trouble! You're on version 1.4.4 right? You can back up copies of all your stuff just in case if it's valuable. Things to try: deleting the .ini file https://answers.launchpad.net/taskcoach/+faq/1061 after you close Task Coach. You'll have to reset any preferences, but that won't affect task files. You can also delete any .delta file for the task file. At the least, you can then test if you still have the problem with a fresh task file. I suspect something just went wrong somehow with the specific file. But I really don't know.

      I've never seen those issues before. If we can reproduce the issue, that will be easiest to fix. Jerome could also look at your error log. You could attach the actual log (see your home directory, it should be saved there).

      Hi,
      yes, I'm using the version 1.4.4.
      I deleted the .ini and the .delta files.
      This morning I experienced the problem again. This time I was able to
      anonymize. I include the file.
      As for the log file ... I just realized it is 3.1GB ...
      And maybe that is a problem as well. Is rotation considered?
      What is the best way to send it to you?
      Or shall I maybe keep the errors for the last few weeks and reduce the
      size?
      I include the log file in which I kept few lines at the beginning and the
      last lines, cutting 45 million of lines in between ... (it almost crashed
      my computer just to do that)
      It seems the error is the same anyway, repeated over and over ... ...
      Can I delete the original 3.1GB error log?

      Thanks

        That log file must be over a huge amount of time. You can definitely just erase it. You could reproduce the error just once to have a clean log, but the shortened one you shared is probably good enough.

          Hi, I just checked the new log file. In 3 hours is already 16MB.

    I fixed what caused the exceptions that fill the log, but I'm not sure how it relates to disappearing tasks. I'm going to make a new release with the fix, we'll see.

    TaskCoach 1.4.5 has been released; can you try it out ?

      Hi, I tried the new version, 1.4.5 . Thanks.
      First, the app opens without errors (yeahh).
      All morning the log was empty, until I closed the app.
      At that point the app gave an error and the error log was created and it
      just contained:
      "============= Mon Mar 25 14:24:59 2019
      Traceback (most recent call last):
      File
      "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/taskcoachlib/thirdparty/hypertreelist.py",
      line 3529, in OnMouse
      self.dragImage.BeginDrag(wx.Point(0,0), self)
      File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/wx-3.0-gtk3/wx/_controls.py", line
      6358, in BeginDrag
      return _controls
      .DragImage_BeginDrag(args, *kwargs)
      wx._core.PyAssertionError: C++ assertion
      "!wxMouseCapture::IsInCaptureStack(this)" failed at
      ../src/common/wincmn.cpp(3271) in CaptureMouse(): Recapturing the mouse in
      the same window?
      "
      A huge improvement in comparison to few MB!!!

      I then opened again the app, created a new folder and dropped in few
      subtasks. Everything seems working fine. The error log just repeated few
      times the same 5 lines above.
      I will keep monitoring, but up to now everything seems fine.

      Thanks,
