#1444 Not good way to round Sum

round (1) sum (2)

The Feature to round the Sum of the Tasks is a good Idea, but I think, it's not implement in best Way.

Here I try to, describe, what I mean:

You create a Task, name it "Demo1" in Category "Cat1".
Now you start tracking on Demo1 three times... 4 Min. 11 Min. and 17 Min.

Result in 32 Minutes

So if I round UP to 5 Minutes, I got 40 Minutes as Result, instead of 35.
This may cause each timetrack inside of a task will be rounded, instead only the whole task.

Thats really bad if you has much tracks into one task.

After a "fix" the time tracking feature has became useless for us. Imagine that you have many tasks and switch between them often. Imagine that you try to get weekly report and round to 1 hour. What you will get is a complete nonsense as every separate record of effort will turn into an hour even if 10 minutes were spent. Then all these hours will sum up and you'll get report that shows that you have worked for 150 hours this week. There is no manager that will believe this. Could you please at least add a checkbox of something to switch the rounding behavior?
    1) Summ efforts then round - Works when you have lots of tasks and you switch often
    2) Round efforts then sum - Might be nice if you would like to take into account overhead it took you to switch the task (but sure you cannot use 1 hour for effort rounding when you switch often)

One addition: if you un-tick "Always round up" and set rounding to 1 hour then you'll end up with zero total effort if you switched tasks often enough.

This feature is intended for people who, for instance, bill by the hour, with each started hour due. You seem to need an actual total time spent, which makes me wonder why you want to round at all.

Anyway, I don't want to add an option for this. If I do it the next thing will be "do we round time spent on each task or the total on all aggregated tasks", then someone will come up with another rounding strategy involving categories, etc, and in a few month there will be more options for rounding than for the rest of the program.

Yes, indeed, it's about total time spent for task or total time spend this week for a task or multiple tasks. And that's needed for multiple reasons for many users i believe as can be seen by initial issue and our team. For example, we use this information to answer following questions:
    1) How much time do i need to solve this kind of tasks?
    2) How much overhead was generated by switching to this side activity?
    3) What's distribution of time between various tasks i work on during week?
To be able to answer on such questions you put your tasks and activities in Task Coach and track time to appropriate entry. Then you generate by-week report that totals time for all tasks. Without rounding you get seconds and minutes that are useless for management and they'll automatically round it down in their minds -> you won't provide generated reports as-is for management and have to do rounding manually in excel. If you turn on rounding to an hour or even to half hour then you'll get very crazy numbers that are so far from reality that report becomes completely useless. And numbers are far from reality because if you turn off "always round up" and you switch tasks often then you'll get 0 hours logged for 40 hours week. And if you turn on "always round up" then you might end up with 200 hours logged for 40 hours week.
