On opening my .tsk file, TaskCoach doesn't respond anymore. Only option is to kill. On version 1.3.1 this didn't happen.
As the PPA actually only offers 1.3.2, I did a manual update to 1.3.3, but this version doesn't work.

Alternatively, I can "insert" my .tsk file into a new one. This works, all looks fine. I can save this new .tsk file without any problem.
But opening this new .tsk file doesn't help, either.

Actually, this .tsk file contains 538 tasks.

I didn't catch any messages when running from console. I don't know where to look after a possible log file for further messages.

I had an idea. Recently I changed some parts of my home folder. My .tsk file is on
    /home/$USER/Projects/myProjects.tsk

Recently I moved "Projects" on my file server and created a symlink. Most of the times opening went well, but not always. In the meantime i "inserted" my .tsk file again into a new one and looked after tasks, which contain attachments. I found one, which pointed to a file which is reachable via above symlink. I deleted this attachment and saved.

Now it works. If i keep my .tsk file on my local drive (/home/$USER), this "hang on startup" doesn't occur. Maybe before TaskCoach tried to verify the attachments?

Jérôme, any ideas how to debug this? Thanks, Frank

Update from today: Maybe it's not caused by the symbolic links.
Today it freezed again. After killing the process I edited the TaskCoach.ini and removed the entry, which last file was opened.
After this TaskCoach started normally without any .tsk file. Opening here worked.

Therefore, I'm actually not sure about the true cause. Maybe it's not about symlinks, maybe it's the startup routine, if the last opened file should be opened. If I actually have to remove the lastfile entry from TaskCoach.ini, I can live with it.

But indeed it would be very helpful to know about the cause of this. If somehow the .tsk file gets corrupt, would be worst case.

Looks like a problem with your network filesystem to me. How do you access the folder on your server ? SMB, NFS, something else ?

Before the .tsk file was stored on a Linux server which I mounted via SMB.
Now the .tsk file is stored local on a a ext4 filesystem.

So you encounter the problem even on a local filesystem ? I'll make some tests on ext4. Never had any problem on ReiserFS.

    Hi,
a new update from me. Today I took my TaskCoach.ini and found many sections like [effortviewerintaskeditor] and so on with many high numbers. Maybe these were created during all the time I use TaskCoach by now, because the first time I tried to find my personal window design.
Nevertheless, I deleted all these sections and left only the configuration relevant (like colors, fonts etc.) in. My TaskCoach.ini was about 98 kB in size.
After this opening my .tsk by hand worked normally. I took screenshots before and reorganized my window settings again to my needs. After saving, closing and a new start TaskCoach loaded normally my .tsk file without any problem.

Maybe my thoughts about attachments and symlinks were totally wrong. However, if I have probably solved this issue now by cleaning the TaskCoach.ini file, I wonder which setting caused TaskCoach to hang on loading my file. And i wonder, why it often worked on manual opening after i emptied the lastfile statement in the TaskCoach.ini.

Hi, could you please test the latest version of Task Coach and tell us if this is still a problem? Thanks

Hi, it's many years later, and as I close this old outdated ticket, I'm excited to tell you that https://github.com/taskcoach/taskcoach now has updated Python3 Task Coach codebase! Packages are available for some common Linux systems and we can add more.

We'd love to have you test the updated program

    Cheers
