Tamboti is a XML framework for cataloguing bibliographical material and other resource types, such as web sites, images and videos.
Tamboti has been created by the HRA (Heidelberg Research Architecture) at the The Cluster of Excellence "Asia and Europe in a Global Context: Shifting Asymmetries in Cultural Flows" at Heidelberg University, in close cooperation with eXist Solutions GmbH.

Tamboti is part of eXist-db, an Open Source XML database.

Tamboti has three main functions.

1. to make it possible to search for existing metadata records
2. to make it possible to create new metadata records and edit existing ones.
3. to make it possible to annotate metadata entries in a manner that facilitates cross-cultural and cross-lingual research, by means of comments and classifications (to be implemented in 2012).
