It's been a very long time, I don't really remember the details, but I had a look at the svn tree, and the important thing is that you have to go under the tags/1.1 directory to find the actual source code. What is under trunk is the beginning of a rewrite of the app in C++/Qt, but it is light-years away from being complete. So in the tags/1.1 folder is the code for the working version, which is written in Squeak (a Smalltalk environment). I guess the first thing you would have to do is familiarize yourself with Squeak.
