SyndStore / News: Recent posts

SyndStore is a web based news aggregation system that uses a MySQL backend and a AJAX enabled front end to allow categorised news feeds to be viewed in a web browser.

Version 0.1.0 of the SyndStore system introduces several behind the scenes updates. These include an improved installation system that allows for the installation of SyndStore onto systems where the installer may not have full access priviledges, a Hosted installation. Also the back end code has had some optimisations suggested by several contributors as mentioned in the comments in the code.... read more

The latest version of SyndStore is now available for download. This newest version now provides an API to allow access to the news articles in the database. Full documentation is provided in the docs/index.html file.

To show off the capabilities of the API a Firefox extension has been included that displays news articles in a scrolling marquee on the browsers statusbar. See the online help file once the SyndStore system is installed for installation instructions of the browser extension.... read more

Selectable columns and information ordering on the feed statistics page introduced in this version.

Also some other minor changes as detailed in the README file.

SyndStore v 0.0.8 introduces the ability to fine tune the user interface via a preferences feature.

Things like number of news articles displayed on the Latest news page, the default category displayed when the Latest News page is first opened, and the number of articles shown on the Random News page are some of the items currently tunable... more to come.

Released today, September 4th, is version 0.0.7 of the SyndStore RSS aggregator.

This version introduces a new backup and restore system to allow protection of the important details of the SyndStore database.

Also introduced is more in depth documentation aimed at administrators to help configure and fine tune a SyndStore system.

Some other changes include a new default font used in the interface, a new method used for searching articles and some new directory structures to allow future features to be added.... read more

SyndStore v 0.0.6 introduces the My News feature. My News is the ability to save advanced searches and recall them. This allows a user to see news of interest from across all feeds.

Minor modifications have also been made to the interface.

SyndStore v 0.0.5 has been released today.

v 0.0.5 introduces a Random News page that displays randomly selected news items from across the feeds.

Also it is now possible to remove feeds and categories. See the help page for more details on the procedures required.

Some other minor features were added and bugs were fixed.

v 0.0.4 of the SyndStore system introduces several new features such as:

Improved installation and upgrade scripts with better interrogation of the Apache configuration files.

Better display of the news items with the integration of the HTML::Entities Perl module.

And other minor changes to the display of the statistics within SyndStore.

V 0.0.3 of the SyndStore system has just been released and now has a new Search feature.

Other features include:
More detailed statistics for each feed.
Installation on Fedora Core 6.
More feedback from the update and cleanup processes. And a whole swag of bug fixes and minor modifications.

Version 0.0.2 of the SyndStore RSS Feed Aggregator has been released. This version introduces the ability to change the display order of the category titles and the feed locations on the latest news pages. Some other minor tidy ups have been done.
Also there is an upgrade script to ease the upgrade of SyndStore v0.0.1 to v0.0.2 See the UPGRADE file for more details.

Just discovered that during the packaging of the SyndStore release 0.0.1 I missed the inclusion of the images directory under the website dir. I have uploaded a new version of the tar.gz file that has this included.

Sorry for the inconvenience, I will blame it on still getting to grips with CVS on SF.

Today PyeNet Universal has published it's second project on Sourceforge.net, SyndStore.

SyndStore is a web based RSS Aggregator. It uses a MySQL backend to store the RSS Feed information and displays the RSS news items via a web interface.

The project is completely usable as it stands at the moment but more work is being done on features to make the user experience even better.
