The thunderbird sync client sends iCalendar (2.0) data, the win mobile client sends vCalendar (1.0) data, and the server doesn't know how to convert the data between the two different formats. Recurrence rule defintions are significantly different between 1.0 and 2.0, so the win mobile client is not able to see the recurrence information sent up by thunderbird.
