What would be a good bitrate to downsample ogg/mp3 files to be used in Symbian7.0+ (Nokia 6260) device to be used by the Symbian Oggplay?
Symbian7.0+ doesn't support stereo (although FM-radio is stereo on 6260) so at least downsampling to mono will save some space.
But what about the bitrate? Any recommendations? It doesn't seem wise to fill rs-MMC card with 112 kbps ogg vorbis files which I usually use in PC. Is there some bitrate which would use less CPU in the Oggplay as it wouldn't need to downsample itself?
And what tool (command line) you guys have been using to downsample and resample ogg and mp3 files in Linux?

Well, I have an N-gage QD, and OggPlay tells me that 16kHz is the max I can have. Curious to know, I encoded the songs at 24kHz, and I believe the quality came out better.
And I've encoded at 64k-bits at a constant rate, although VBR may have had a clear output, too.
So, try going a level higher, the size may go up a bit, but it's worth it.
I hope you found this helpful, and thank you for your time.
