AVRCP and A2DP?

Was curious to the capabilities of possibly adding (into later more developed versions of OggPlay) the ability to support both A2DP and AVRCP. Currently very few phones support the Advanced Audio Distrobution Profile. This is the profile that allows for phones to connect to bluetooth headsets that support surround sound and actually play in surround sound rather than in mono. And then the Audio Visual Remote Control Profile which is even rarer in phones that allows for bluetooth headsets, such as the Motorola HT820, to control the music via bluetooth with pause/play/forward/reverse controls located on the bluetooth device itself.

I may just be taking a stab in the dark and hoping that these two profiles can be installed/integrated into software on symbian phones but I have not heard one way or another yet. I rather like OggPlay and think that it would be a nice addition.

Well, to be supported by Symbian apps, these two profiles must be implemented in the device itself. I don't thing that there are any Symbian models that support the A2DP profile, even N73 and N93 aren't planned to do so.

I don't think that's really true. The MSI BluePlayer adds software support for A2DP at least, but unfortunately, they only made it for their i.Tech deviced (I have a nokia headset, and I can hear 1 second of excellent quality audio before being cut off). That's why I'm pretty sure A2DP can be implemented in software, which would be a major breakthrough for oggplay.

This sounds like something that would be worth adding, if it is possible. Does anyone know where I can find a description of how A2DP works and what algorithm it uses?

      Look at http://www.holtmann.org/linux/bluetooth/audio.html and http://www.holtmann.org/linux/bluetooth/sbc.html
I have no idea about A2DP implementation in symbian,  some API might be in latest version. At least SE claims P990i supports A2DP.
Interesting compatibility list is at http://www.robertwebbe.nl/A2DP.html - no one Symbian Nokia phone listed!

In principle you have to send compressed audio in a format that BT headphones can decode. Mandatory codec is SBC,
some headsets can also decode MP3. I'm not aware of any headset capable of OGG decoding.
Good news is that GPL source code of SBC codec is available.
So you have decode OGG, encode to SBC format and send it to stereo BT headphones over bluetooth socket.
This is lot of work for a symbian device. Remember my tests of decoding http streams.
Practically SBC codec / BT sink are implemented as MMF plugin (most probably).

You need at least Bluetooth ver 1.2 to support A2DP, so it is not for my P900.
