[Syllable-kernel] crazy compiler error messages

Does anybody know what causes the 'stray \194' or 'stray \160' errors in gcc?  These errors are coming from gcc version 3.4.3.  They are found in lines of code that correspond to a structure definition that I created.  Any help would be greatly apprieciated!:)
