All I know is that the Alps GlidePoint touchpad on my laptop (PS/2 
interface) never worked for me in Syllable until now (and yes it is a 
SiS chipset).

Most recently it wasn't detected at all (the v86 BIOS call in ps2aux was 
failing), but before that it would move the mouse pointer around the 
screen randomly when I tried to use it.  Since I prefer to use my $20 
Logitech Marble Mouse on the USB port, it wasn't a big priority, but 
it's nice to know that it's working again.
