I have added an import function for freight cars. Install the Beta version and let me know if it is what you are looking for. David
I will have to think about it. I would only consider an import function for freight rolling stock. The program would not test the validity of any of the imported data. If the current location of an imported car is invalid, that car will not be assigned to trains. The user would have to manually change the car's location. Duplicates of existing cars in the database will be ignored. The user would still have to define the locations (Towns and Yards), industries, routes, trains, and shipments. Cabooses...
Really an import function would be extremely helpfull. I can't think of any body in my club who has the time to key all this information in again. Over the years we've created a number of spread sheets. Like the other guy said, a simple CSV file would work well. Of course you would need a procedure for each data file but once the first is written you just chance the file names and feilds for each. Just tell us what order the fields should be in and we can match that.
It sounds simple but it is time consuming to implement. A very limited number of users would use it and those that would, they would only use it the first time they use the program. I have personally entered the data on every piece of rolling stock for my layout (200+) and for the club I belong to (300+). It takes time but it doesn't have to be done all in one sitting. Right now I don't plan to implement this capability. Thank you for your suggestion. David Bond Sent using https://www.zoho.com/mail/...
There should be an import function. I have all kinds of data in spreadsheets, and I don't want to rekey it all. A simple CSV file transfer would work just fine with a template to work from.
Jim, Sorry for the delayed response. The error you received indicates that you haven't entered a valid number for the train length leaving your first location. If you are still experiencing this problem. Please send me a screen grab so I can see what you have entered. 1. Kris, The program defines a staging yard as a yard where trains are stored off stage awaiting their return to the layout viewing area (the stage if you like). Trains entering staging exit with the same consist as they entered with. The program does permit the addition and removal of rolling stock on a staged train that has been terminated in staging. Removing all rolling stock from a train in staging does not delete the staged train. The program will see an empty train as still having its locomotive....

Got stuck again: I'm not clear how you handle staging yards? I've setup a route between two staging yards, but the trains don't run, because it complains there is no free arrival track. As a staging yard there should always be free space. Since the staging yard trains don't run, the layout has stalled. My interchange yard has cars with shipments waiting to be sent off layout, but the yard is not being serviced. I can share the data files if needed.

Chris, Thank you for contacting me. If you discover a problem as you continue, please let me know. I haven't been checking my mail for the last couple of weeks. Looks like the issue was that I did not have an empty track in staging to receive trains on. Will check it out further. Thank you for providing this program.
I seem to be able to open Help with F1. Though the help did not open at first start-up. (Possibly due to above problem.) Going through the help now...
New to your program. I've a route created from staging A to yard C and then to staging E. I've setup a train to run that route. When I try to create a switch list it complains with. "There are no inbound trains in staging yard. Please select different trains to run." I've another train for route E-C-A. But it gets the same error. What is needed to setup staging trains? I even created a A-staging switcher, but also that one will not create a switch list.
Trying to open Help, will show a shirt opening window, but it closes directly again. Of note is that I run this via wine in Linux Mint.

Well that helped. I use a desktop so it could not be in tablet mode but I use a TV for my display. When I checked what you recommended I saw that my display was set to 150% which I need in order to see things clearly. As a test I set the display to 100% and everything worked ok but the fonts are very small making it difficult to see. So, not your fault and I'll find a work around to my problem. I have no idea why you are unable to resize and why you do not have scroll bars. I am using Embarcadero Delphi 10.2. I am using EasySize add-on to the environment to support page resizings. I personally have the program installed on 2 Windows 7 computers (home and club), a Windows 8 computer (home) and a Windows 10 computer (home). I have had no other reports of being unable to resize or scroll. I have no idea how to fix the problem you are experiencing. If you have a suggestion, I am open to hearing...
I downloaded the latest version and still had the screen bugs. Based on your reply i tried changing screen resolution. The included screen shots were at 800 by 600. The shots I sent originally were 1280 x 1040. Even at the highest resolution 1920 x 1080 The screen is not resizable and there are no scroll bars. Curious what language are you writing this application in.
Sorry for the slow response. I have looked at the screen captures you sent. There is definitely a problem but I can't find the problem on my end. I just did a clean install on a Windows 10 computer (which appears to be what you are running) and both windows were both resizable and there were no cut-off areas. It has been 5 days since you posted, if the problem is still present let me know. David
See the button YARD TRACKS on the screen here. That doesn't look right Right portion of screen here cut off. Not resizaable. -- Question Everything. Kurt
Paul, I am uploading the new version right now. After installing the new version, you need to go back to the Trains tab and change the switch options on your trains that begin and/or end in staging. Paul, Thank you for letting me know about these problems. I can only fix problems if people let me know about them. I have found 2 problems which I will fix. The first problem is how you defined your staging trains. You set the switching options for the staging yard to 'No' (Does Not Switch). This prevented the program from loading or unloading cars in the yard. On the Trains tab, select each train that goes to or from staging and make sure the 'Switches' entry for the yard is 'Yes'. It could also...
Paul, I will take a look at what you sent me and get back to you. I have run one of your trains and I do see a problem but I need to understand it fully before I can answer your question. David

Hi, I have been looking at SwitchWithIt as a simpler JMRI replacement. After using the help I managed to setup a simple test: Yard -------- East Staging Using one route and a train I was able to get a train into 'East Staging' from the 'Yard'. Although the car itself did not move, I then had to manually move the car to staging. Using another route I was then able to create a train that says it picks up the car in 'East Staging' and sets it out in 'Yard', which you can see in the gif. But after terminating...
