I got the same problem while trying to install SWIG from CVS (hoping the
new -python -threads would magically solve all my problems...) and here
is how I got around it :
run "./configure " without "--prefix..."
then run "make" only and use the compiled SWIG from this directory.
If you really want to install to another directory with --prefix, just
copy manually all the folders from your compilation directory to the
install directory (you don't need to copy CVS, Source and autom4te.cache)
I tried both ways and they worked on my system (winXP)
