, please also talk about the cases where a true distributed version control
system like Git would be better.  For example, I hear Git is better at
handling extremely large repositories, like the Linux kernel repository,
with reasonable speed and agility.  You can also go to

advantages of each system, though that page is probably biased towards Git.

    In reviewing this issue, it occurs to me that it's somewhat out of scope to try to offer a complete comparison of Subversion and, say, Git.  Presumably, a person reading this book is doing so because they want to know about Subversion.  That said, the "Is Subversion the Right Tool?" section was a bit stale in light of the DVCS explosion.  I've taken a pass at trying to at least draw attention to that VC approach and its major players as a way of hopefully giving readers cause to pause and consider whether there's more research they need to do before diving into Subversion.
