Currently we always require write access to the repository.

The book implies that you can get by with read only access. Might
be nice to explain this why write access is necessary. But I'll stick
to minimal fixes at this late hour.

* appb.xml: upgrade to the most recent FAQ questions.

Book beautification.

Use individual blocks for <variablelist> layout (read: "Oh my God
that looks a million times better than the default case!")

Eliminate spurious whitespace in the rendered output.

Remove some misused <firstterm>s, and make other textual adjustments.
