[Sv1-devel] substantial feature branch merged for testing

Hello there --

I've just merged, to the default development branch of Sonic Visualiser,
a set of changes arising from work done on the Tony pitch annotation
program (see http://code.soundsoftware.ac.uk/projects/tony) which is
based on the same code as SV.

If you're building Sonic Visualiser from the Mercurial repo, I'd invite
you to pull a new copy and test to see whether your existing workflow
still works.

Alternatively, if you're in a position to build from a source tarball,
I've uploaded one here:

The most interesting one is that time-value layers can now be sonified
(i.e. played back using a continuous sound generator) if they have scale
units of Hz. Also, note layers can be played back at frequencies that
are not exact MIDI pitches.

Another change that may potentially cause confusion is to the octave
numbering -- middle C is now C4 rather than C3. On the one hand, this
change may confuse -- on the other hand, the old behaviour also confused
quite a lot of people. There is a configuration option to switch the
numbering system if desired.

This is some way off going out as the next major release yet -- I want
to clear out some of the other bugs and pending issues as well -- but
it's definitely a parcel of changes worth testing. The work for Tony
involved quite a bit of low-level plumbing so it's quite possible there
may be damage outside the scope of the features described above.
