Hi, we have to make a decision re kart animations for the irrlicht branch: which animations do we want/need, and when are they going to be played. Here a very first list: 1) Steering animations: left, straight, right - Perhaps sharp-left and sharp-right 2) Backwards driving 3) Winning animations - To keep it simple we might not want to do losing animations (when do you 'lose'? Even if you don't win a race you might win a GP, is being last as bad as being 4th???) 4) Special animation when being hit (waving the arms in the air??) - It might be difficult to see since the karts are currently blasted into the air by the physics, but might look nice. To save implementation work these animations would be sorted by priorities, so that only one of them is played at a time (merging several animations together is rather difficult): 1) Winning 2) being hit 3) backwards driving 4) steering So if you win no steering (nor being hit, ...) would be displayed, and if you are driving backwards no steering is displayed either. One obvious omission is an animation when you overtake another kart. But it appears to be unlikely that you overtake a kart and are not steering (any comments on this?), so perhaps it's not worth the effort to implement this. All animations would be optional, i.e. even if a kart does not have any animations defined, it would still work (just look a bit boring ;) ). Any comments or recommendations? Cheers, Joerg |
