I have English and Russian .SRT subtitle files for a Soviet film. The Russian subs are already well-synchronized while the English ones are about a second off at the beginning and several minutes off by the end. I would love to be able to transfer the Russian timings to the English subtitles. At this point in my language learning, my comprehension of the writing is far ahead of my speech comprehension, so I can easily match up the subtitle text, whereas correctly matching english subtitles with audio in Russian remains doubtful.

A complication exists. The English subtitles start at the very beginning, translating the name of the studio, the title opening credits, etc. Obviously the Russian subtitles don't translate this Russian text...into Russian text, so they only begin after these credits end and dialogue starts.

All would be well if I could see English and Russian subtitles side-by-side and point the first Russian subtitle to where actual dialogue begins in the English translation, but I'm only seeing the English subtitles with some color coding I assume means the software is having some difficulties. So I need advice how to best to proceed. If it isn't already obvious, I'm a complete newbie with subtitles generally and with this software.

    1) You can easily add additional subtitles to begin of russian ones, or delete some from start of english ones.

    2) then you can load english ones like translation, and go through all the texts, and match sentence by sentence that english is matching russian correctly.
You need to be careful - sometimes texts can be shorter or longer, and even some additional sentences can be added by talented translator.

    3) when original and translation are loaded, you can add/delete subtitles to original or translation only to match your texts

What movie you have synchronizing? I'm russian, so may help.
