#20 kitkat update causing data download loop

last week verizon updated my galaxy s4 to kitkat. Since then some apps that haven't updated to the latest android build have been reporting that they are not connected to a network. In the case of the subsonic app when I play a song the app shows the song, with a status of downloading 0KB. It then just sits and doesn't download or play the song, and my phone heats up like it's in a loop. It is trying to download something, because the subsonic app used 3GB of data in day on trying to download that file. If I reboot sometimes it works, it doesn't make a difference whether I'm on cellular 4G network or wifi, They both have the same result. The file doesn't download and play its stuck on downloading status with 0KB and the phone heats up using data.
