srt files are actually encoded in ANSI even if they are detected as UTF-8-BOM.
To replicate, rip subtitle with accents (like French) and open file in Notepad++: characters with accents will not display properly.
Workaround is to change encoding to ANSI, then convert encoding to UTF-8-BOM in Notepad++.
