This is an OSS device from a "simple" soundcard. Pro-audio soundcards with more inputs are likely different. I'm not sure whether SuSE 8.0 uses ALSA or OSS sound drivers. Even if it uses ALSA, ALSA provides backward compatibility with OSS drivers. The main difference to you is how to get the soundcard configured. Do you have alsamixer and/or alsamixergui programs on your system? If so, then SuSE 8.0 has ALSA based sound. Run either of those programs and BOTH unmute the inputs and increase their volumes. Do this as root if you want your changes to survive a reboot of your machine. FWIW, I run Mandrake 9.0 which uses ALSA 0.9 drivers. I had to go through the unmute and volume setting procedure to get my system to work with my oddball, but VERY nice and VERY cheap sound card. I got a Hoontech SoundTrack Yamaha XG with the DB I add-on all for US$67. This unit has both analog inputs and digital (SPDIF) I/O, which was a must for me. The next cheapest card with these features was 3-4 times as much money. > Yes, it loads a wav-file just fine and play it. Good deal. SoundStudio & SoX seem to be working fine. Again, this looks like a soundcard setup issue. Cheers.... |
