Hi, You're receiving this message as you subscribed to the STTR mailing list. This list has been all but dead for a very long time and now I am finally closing it down in light of our new site design. Check out the design at www.assimsoft.com - its quite a face lift. For those interested in progress development (which is faster than ever), please regularly check the forum. A lot goes on there. Goodbye :) Chris p.s. Probably most of you will not even remember what STTR is - its an open source star trek game that has been in development for quite some time now. |

Hi, This mailing list will no longer be the primary source for discussion. This will move to our forum. The list will stay open for important updates or discussion that suits it. The forum is at http://sttr.sf.net/phpBB/. There is no webpage link yet, but there soon will be. Thankyou, Chris |

Hi all, We've got a lovely new forum on our website now. Check it out at http://sttr.sf.net/phpBB/ ! This is where we are going to be our control centre for the future development of Assimilation Software games. Also, we're having a number of policy changes on the way Assimilation Software is organised. I'll post these on the forum (and maybe this list and the news page) soon. Regards, Chris |

Hi all, I've just written a very long FAQ about STTR. Its fun reading :-) If you have _any_ relevant questions I haven't covered. Feel free to contact me! Regards, Chris |

Hi all, I thought I'd post an early story draft of our sequel to STTR, "Star Trek: Borg Incursion". It should be noted that most of the work has been done on the overall plot, but a lot will be done to flesh it out and make it make more sense (it does make sense, but it is very complicated and needs explaining more). There is more information about how STTR and STBI link together on our website (storyboard section). Any ideas are always welcome. Regards. Chris |

Hi, Theres been some forced behaviour changes to the STTR-open mailing list I didn't know about. To reply to a message so that everyone saw what you read, before, you just did a normal reply. But now you have to tell your mail program to "reply to all" instead of the usual "reply". Otherwise the reply will only be sent to the poster of the message you are replying to. Alternatively you could manually set the outgoing address to stt...@li.... Just be careful or you might get caught out, and people might not be able to read your replies when you want them to. I checked into the interior of the Jem'Hadar ship. I remembered an episode where they were stranded on a planet and took refudge in a crashed Jem'Hadar ship. I checked arround and found out that the name of the DS9 episode was "The Ship". startrek.com has a few pics and a short video of the episode that shows a few great shots of the interior, just remember the ship crashed upside down so there walking arround on the cealings! The address to the page with the video is (hope this works) http://www.startrek.com/library/media_DS9.asp?id=18913 if you cant get there by that do the following: go to <www.startrek.com> click <library> click the <DS9 icon> All the episodes will come up, scrole down looking for "The Ship" or <arrange alphabeticly> and scrole to it. You should then see a photo and the icons to show photos and a video. The video shows the interior of the ship ALOT better than the photos. I recently downloaded the mapping softwear from ravensoft. Are there any additional textures anywhere? What can I start mapping? I did a small section of the Enterprise D hall according to my Next Gen Tech Manual CD, but also have some GREAT photos of the hall and sickbay if someone wants those photos let me know. The photos are pictures somone took of the sets, nice and clean, bright, clear. Yep, am I good or what? LOL Scott __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Cool: someone used the mailing list for once :-) > > Hello everyone, > > Happy New Year! > > Question: > --------------------- > I wanted to know if the entities in the first Person Mode will be > 3D Models or 3D sprits? um, yes. I'm not entirely sure about this one. Maybe it'll be a mix. The problem is getting decent models and skins and even getting sprites will be pretty hard. Anyone up to any of these challenges? We might be able to import some freeware quake-X stuff. > > What I'm up to: > --------------------- > I have recorded and converted the mid files to MP3 like I was > asked. Some > of them sound terrible just to let you guys know. =) I'm not > sure if it is > me or if they just really sound bad?? Nevertheless, when I return to > university I will upload them somewhere =) > I think Sam asked for that for his own use. What he wants with them is anyones guess :-) I still don't see any real advantages in converting midi->mp3. Yes, the quality might be slightly higher if a decent sample set was used, but the file size would be huge. However, if we have music that was originally composed in mp3, that would have massive quality advantages. I already have one song. btw. I have 34 more MIDI files that would work quite well in the game, many of them the same tunes as used in Elite: Frontier. Just for anyone who doesn't know my master plan is to provide midi's with the standard game download and an mp3 addon pack to replace these with decent mp3's; whether we can get enough decent mp3's is another question :-) Anyone up for this challenge? > As for the Dominion ship level design, I have gathered some > images of the > ship outline and bridge. Also I need more > details on the objectives for this level so I can design accordingly. Good work. A quote for you from a schematic I have (nothing else is useful): "The crew complement of 42 is relatively high for such a small ship. To accomodate them all, very little of the crafts interior is given over to other compartments such as cargo bays" I don't think we've ever seen outside the bridge, but we have seen corridors of a Jem'Hedar space station in DS9:Tacking into the wind (I think thats the episode). www.stinsv.com might have some pics there. The objective of the level is simply to erradicate all the Jem'Hedar-Borg. When the last is killed the level will end. This would mean the whole ship needs mapping out. This shouldn't be a problem, as the ship is really small. Dimensions: 68x70x18. I think maybe there should be 1 main deck, with ladders to access lower level control rooms. There should be bridge, engineering, small cargo bay, barracks, vorta-office and little rooms for computer equipment/weapons etc. All connected by minimal corridors. > > I have also looked at the Main story board and sketched out my > take on the > camera shots for the CGIs. Hello everyone, Happy New Year! Question: --------------------- I wanted to know if the entities in the first Person Mode will be 3D Models or 3D sprits? What I'm up to: --------------------- I have recorded and converted the mid files to MP3 like I was asked. Some of them sound terrible just to let you guys know. =) I'm not sure if it is me or if they just really sound bad?? Nevertheless, when I return to university I will upload them somewhere =) As for the Dominion ship level design, I have gathered some images of the ship outline and bridge. I cannot find any corridor images; If anyone has a ship schematic, which shows exactly where the bride is located, email it to me please. I need it so I can be some-what accurate. Also I need more details on the objectives for this level so I can design accordingly. I have also looked at the Main story board and sketched out my take on the camera shots for the CGIs. I'm going to scan in my drawings... I scribbled them out, so don't expect a Picasso ;) , but I hope you will get an idea of my vision. Merry Christmas (okay I'm a day too late :-) There's not much news for Star Trek: The Resistance at the moment, except: Gus will now be the STTR first-person-map-team-leader, so if anybody wants to have any part in designing or making maps, or anything related to first-person mode really, he's the guy to talk to. His mail address is on our website. Regards, Chris p.s. Feel free to use this mail list (stt...@li...) for anything STTR related. |

Hi, I'm working on Beta 1 of Star Trek: The Resistance now, which is basically a rewrite of over half the game. I'm working on rewriting all the stuff the new OpenGL part of the engine is going to use, then I'll actually get my hands dirty with OpenGL. So far I have: - done major reworkings to many parts of the system - implemented all the structures required for the new engine - implemented the new map/saved game loader - implemented the new "type" loader - implemented the new sprite loader - implemented the new weapon loader - implemented the new infobar I'd recon I'm about 20% of the way to getting the new engine finished. I've written about 1000 all-new lines of C++ code for the above to happen (previously there was 11.5 k lines of code altogether). Thanks for "listening", Chris p.s. The new engine is going to be very cool. Especially the first-person mode and new weapons that have been carefully planned. |

Hi. You may or may not know about the new Star Trek: The Resistance engine I am developing, but here are the design documents for the technically minded of you. It will be written in OpenGL, and a 3D video card will be very recommended. Chris |
