I'm using the serial port on my dell laptop (XP). The thing is, I can read cards with sparkfun's 12k program they gave me. I can not write as of now, I don't know why.
But I absolutely can not get SS (stripe snoop) to detect the device.
Can anyone suggest solutions and/or other programs? Does anyone know why I may not be able to write but only read?
thanks
sorry for being a newb to this

Basically, Stripe Snoop 1.6 does not support serial readers. Stripe Snoop 2.0 might, but you have to get it from CVS and compile it yourself. The easiest way to get data from a serial reader is using a terminal program like HyperTerminal (or the software that came with your reader).
As for the writing, have you tried using the command set document linked from the page you mentioned? It's at:
Using those commands in a terminal program should give you some output at least. Try typing a '9' and then Enter to get the firmware version, for example.

Hi,
I'm a bit confused about what is wrong. I have the sparkfun 3 track reader/writer:
