I'd like to say I am probably a little late using Stripe Snoop and getting into the whole Magstripe realm.  I actually saw the demo a while back at either Toorcon or Defcon can’t remember.  Damn cool talk.  I’d like to know if the project has just fallen behind because of not enough community help, and the creator has just lost interest.  Found some known issues with DMV licenses date of birth is incorrect, also ID number is also incorrect at least the first 4 digits.    Well I just got my reader on the up and up, so I will be testing cards etc… I’ve also had a short talk with a coder buddy of mine maybe doing a SQL database, that’s a little more intense.  Food for thought.

The project hasn't been updated in a while primarily because the creator has lost interest.  Also, it is difficult for people to contribute because the creator, acidus, has not approved any other SourceForge users as project admins.  I e-mailed and messaged him about this, but received no response.  If you'd like to give it a try, he seems to have some contact information on his web site: http://www.msblabs.org/.

As for recent work on the project, I adapted a TTL magstripe reader to work over USB a few months ago.  See http://ossguy.com/ss_usb/ for details.  Unfortunately, I can't get this linked from the main Stripe Snoop page because no one but acidus has access and he seems to be AWOL.

I would be willing to do a bit of work to get the project going again, such as moving the code to a new repository.  There are one or two developers out there that have commit access to the current repository, but without admin access on the project itself, we can't add new ones.  And it appears that we can't just take over the Stripe Snoop project; I contacted SourceForge support and they refused to process a project take over request.  If you want to give it a try yourself, go ahead.

If we're going to start over, it may be worth switching to a different host.  SourceForge is ok, but it has a ton of ads and the mailing list archives are painfully difficult to navigate.  Google Code is one option; I'm sure there are others.  Suggestions?

So in response to your question, I think there's enough interest to get the project going again and we'd love to see your patches.  We just need to migrate to a new repository (and possibly a new host), then we'll be ready to go.

I have tried at http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=2029583&group_id=1&atid=200001 to get a project take over. I guess well see what happens.

We have now started StripeSnoop2. It can be found at: http://code.google.com/p/stripesnoop2/.
