When generating a release, it would be nice if the name
of the tarball was strace-{version}.tar.gz or
strace-{version}.tar.bz2, instead of
strace-{version}-{debian_release}.tar.gz
Why?
strace is used in almost every distribution, and
forcing maintainers of non-Debian packages to use the
Debian version and revision naming system is a bit
onerous. Specifically, having an upstream "version"
with a dash in it, and no dash between the package name
and the version, is the de-facto standard means of
identifying a package. Breaking from this standard just
makes the jobs of other people more difficult.
Thank you.
The make-dist script used for generating release tarballs generates tarballs with a conformant name as of now.
