Thanks Bill. The issue for us is "how do you represent a conformance class and a UoF in a modular AP?" My understanding is that a conformance class is what should be implemented by a vendor wishing to claim conformance to an AP. A CC comprises of UoFs. Our proposal is that when developing an AP you represent a CC as a module. I.e. create a module that you will use as a CC in a given AP. The AP document will then just reference the CC module. Given that the CC is to be implemented, any module that is to be used a CC should have a long form ARM and MIM. Subject: RE: AP documents Hi Rob and All, I have reviewed the slides and find them to be very informative and well done. I have just a few comments/questions: Slides 23: Do we need UoFs if we have modules and (potentially) ARM CCs ? Where did the (potentially) ARM CCs idea come from ? There was nothing in Greg 3 column table related to that, so was that discussed in a different WG12 or PLCS meeting? What would be the value in that, other than to encourage ARM implementations, which is OK for testing but not for ultimate standardization. Slide 25: First CC will always correspond to AP module (LF). I don't think is necessary. For AP 203E1 (1994) that was not the case. There were 6 CCs: PDM with no geometry (CC1) and then CC1 combined with 5 different shape reps (any shape rep had to have CC1). By making the LF a CC (and module) you are providing guidance that this is an implementable group of information and I think for some APs this will be 'too huge' to consider. Fair point - Slide 32: Modular AP developers may also wish to create ARM CC subdivisions Say issue as noted form Slide 23 --- would like to understand this 'requirement', because I currently don't see the value. Best regards, Bill. -----Original Message----- From: Rob Bodington [mailto:rob...@eu...] Sent: Thursday, August 29, 2002 10:07 AM To: AP-...@AT... Subject: AP documents Hi We have put together a presentation outlining our views on how a modular AP will work. It is based on the results of the discussions at the Stockholm SC4 meeting. The presentation is based on work in progress and contains some background material on the module repository. Due to its large size I have uploaded it to: http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~robbod/modular_aps%2004.zip All comments welcome.
