#1 Opening page for stepmod (repository_index)

The opening page for stepmod (at least offline version)
says:
The use of this page is deprecated.
It has been replaced by a significantly improved
navigation facility available at:
./nav/index.xml

...and you can click to index.xml and get the
contemporary version.

Why not just now re-assign the repository_index version
to be an alternative view, and make the contemporary
version the 'default' view?
