Hi Jonathan! If you haven't already, stop in the #stepmania-devs IRC channel on Freenode. Most of us tend to lurk in there when not busy. OSX support is definitely not dead, but we'd definitely appreciate having a little help on that front. Xcode 5 apparently broke a lot of things, and we want to get that fixed! I should mention that we're in release mode right now and trying to push 5.0 out as soon as feasible, so things like fixing Xcode compilation and bug-squashing will be priorities over refactoring. Take a look through the bugtracker and pick something you like, and the devs can help you navigate our (somewhat daunting) codebase. *dp On Mon, Nov 11, 2013 at 01:30:20AM -0500, Jonathan Cobian wrote: > Hello everyone, > > My name is Jonathan Cobian and I've become interested in joining the > Stepmania development team. Hello everyone, My name is Jonathan Cobian and I've become interested in joining the Stepmania development team. I'm not really sure where I should look to find work to do/code to contribute to. I'm developing on an Ubuntu machine but on a side, does anyone know if the Mac OS X port is dead or not? I haven't found anything for Xcode 5 so I'm wondering if it has been ported over there yet. Anyways, I've compiled the source code and am ready to start helping out if anyone would like to help me out. Preferably I'd like to do something with improving some data structures but I'm open to any suggestions. I'm new to the open source community so I appreciate all of the guidance! Thanks in advance, -- Jonathan Cobian University of Notre Dame '15 237 Dillon Hall Notre Dame, IN, 46556 jc...@nd... |

This is super awesome. Thank you guys so much. This is part of a larger project I am working on to dashboard and track metrics about EVERYTHING in my life. I'll be glad to share my results with you guys. Right now I am actively working on a few other things, so it might be some time before I get around to doing Stepmania metrics. When I do though, you can check it out (and other metric / dashboard stuff I'm working on) on my github profile at: https://github.com/dechols All the stuff I'm doing is open source, of course. :) On Mon, Jan 28, 2013 at 5:02 PM, Colby Klein <sha...@gm...> wrote: > I'm not aware of any released scripts that do what you're doing, just an > old proof of concept by AJ (I think it was AJ, at least) which dumped the > last played song title into a file. > > Everything you need should be exposed. I'm not aware of any released scripts that do what you're doing, just an old proof of concept by AJ (I think it was AJ, at least) which dumped the last played song title into a file. Everything you need should be exposed. You can get stage stats and all that easily, count steps from broadcast messages, etc. I need to update it but the ScreenSelectMusic overlay in Optical (http://ssc.ajworld.net/?p=optical) deals with getting stage stats. The full Lua API reference is here: https://sm-ssc.googlecode.com/hg/Docs/Luadoc/Lua.xml, and we're always up for helping on irc.freenode.net/#stepmania-devs - Colby On Mon, Jan 28, 2013 at 4:12 PM, David Echols <dhe...@gm...> wrote: > Writing a file isn't a problem. Writing a file isn't a problem. I just want to make sure of a couple things
before I dive further. :)
#1 - I'm not duplicating some previous effort.
#2 - What i'm doing makes sense at all (like if there are zero apis exposed
for this kind of data, then this project obviously makes no sense).

Do you just need to know how to write a file? You can use the RageFile
helpers for that stuff. There's a script in the game using it, check
/Themes/_fallback/Scripts/01 IniFile.lua.
The basic process is this:
local file = RageFileUtil.CreateRageFile()
if not file:Open(file_path, RageFile.WRITE) then
-- log an error
Warn( string.format("WriteFile(%s):
%s",file_path.file:GetError()) )
file:destroy()
return false
end
-- write some stuff
file:PutLine("foo")
file:Close()
file:destroy()
A good file path would be somewhere in /Save, that should always be
writable. You'll find the output in whichever folder SM stores the saves on
your platform.

Hey guys, I am looking to either use an existing mod or create a mod that allows Stepmania to store data from each song played. The purpose is to store interesting data about when someone plays stepmania so you can parse that data out to a dashbaord. So you could store things like song name, song length, time played (local time), number of steps, and so on. I looked around and the closest thing I could find was the beginnings of a LUA script using the Stepmania API. http://www.pastie.org/4076202 Do you guys know of any existing mod that may already do this in some way? If not, do you think it would make sense to use the API to create something like this? Thanks for your help. - David |

Pulseaudio as well as dmix can be configured easily to resample at 48kHz. At worst people experience larger latency. With the current setup it either works, or the program prints to stderr a cryptic error users do not understand, if they actually get to read it. Thanks, Pavel. |

Hi, Thanks for the wonderful work on stepmania. While trying to run it on my linux HTPC, I found out the hard-coded alsa device in the source code is "hw:0". This communicates directly with the sound card, which can be already busy at that time, it requires the sound card accepts 16bit samples (not case for Envy24 cards accepting 32bit samples only), it bypasses all sound mixers, and expects that the card nb. 0 exists and is the correct one. IMO a better variant would be to use the "default" alsa device which should be working universally on any setup. It is what vast majority of media players use as default. I know I can change the SoundDevice in the config file (that's how I made my setup work) but the "default" value should work for most. Thanks a lot for consideration. Best regards, Pavel. |

Current StepMix Judges or others interested in judging: Please send me your top 20 songs in the next 14 hours. Reminder: You don't need to have precise scores for each song - the point of this phase is to quickly weed out the entries that have no chance of placing in the top 7. If you'd like to judge but aren't able to get your top 20 in tonight, please send me a quick mail so that we can make other arrangements. Thanks! -Chris |
