I'd like to disable anonymous tracker posts, meaning that people must get a sourceforge account and log in before they can post. The reason is that anonymous posters do not get notifications of updates to their tracker items making it very hard to help them. A typical situation is that someone posts a vague bug report, I ask for more information, and set the status to "pending" which means they should respond, else the tracker will be closed after some time. The anonymous poster does not check back and does not get email notification of the change of status, so the tracker item just gets closed. They remember their bug report in 3 months time and find it has been closed, and feel like they are being ignored. If anonymous posters do check back in a reasonable time, then do not easily find the "pending" tracker items, and tend to re-post the original comments with a question like "why did you delete my original request"? This is rather frustrating. For sure the sourceforge trackers are not ideal, but I think making people log in will help more than it will cost us in lost posts. I'll change the policy for the trackers in a couple of days if no-one objects strongly. Matthew |
