We can select Earth if we are on the Earth:

    1. Hide the landscape
    2. Turn on azimuthal grid
    3. Navigate to the nadir (opposite to zenith) and click on it
    4. Stellarium will select Earth

Is it a bug or a feature?

Why would you want to do that if you are already on Earth?
Yes if you select Earth and centre it. It the current coords of Earth will be
    its centre.
If you fly to it that will become your point of origin which is where you
    started
I don't think you can call it a bug or a feature. Just the way Stellarium
    works

Funny, how Stellarium then spins itself endlessly until you hit cursor up or
    down.....keep it ;-)

I think it is due to maths calculations. You are making a "point" your origin
but a point has no dimensions so the program justs keeps printing "random"
    screen updates.

Moving from this point with the cursor gives a direction and the program
    continues normally.

Stellarium 0.11.1 seemed to have stopped it!
