I have been hearing rumors about stellarium 1.0 coming out soon. Is this true?
If so what new features would be in it?

"Soon"? Probably not. The next version will be 0.11.2, another alleged "bug
fix release" that will also introduce new bugs, er, features.

You can see which bugs and feature requests have been scheduled for 1.0.0 her
    e
    , but
nothing guarantees that they won't be fixed/implemented earlier or later.

For 1.0.0, the chief things I am working on is the improved telescope
control (support for ASCOM and INDI) and better handling of time zones and
locations. Other people in the team are working on other things, and most of
the core team has been inactive for some time due to being busy in "real
    life".

What I heard is that there would be improved star rendering and observatory
dome connect ability. Is this also true?

There are always unfounded rumors circulating on release dates for Stellarium.
The way to check is to click on the wiki main page and go to the last item
"Release Schedule" then in the first paragraph click on "this feature list
    spread sheet"

You will see a summary of the work that is required for the release of version
1.0.0 ]. Note there are quite a few items that do not have anyone working on
at the moment so a release in the short time is extremely unlikely.

Both the INDI and ASCOM platforms support devices other than telescopes,
including domes. The INDI client will support anything using that interface,
though it seems that the only dome driver so far is for MaxDome II:

    http://www.indilib.org/index.php?title=MaxDome_II

The ASCOM platform does have drivers for a lot of dome models, but covering
the dome control standard will require some extra work in addition to the
basic telescope client, because I need to create the interface for each kind
    of device manually. :(

I haven't heard anything about "improved star rendering". There is a guy
working on a better implementation of the NGC catalog, including nebula
outlines. There is also the work a student did on planet rendering for ESA's
SOCIS (Summer of Code in Space). Very recently was also added support for
atmospheric extinction, though I don't know how well it will work.
