I intalled 15.1 on a new computer running Windows 10. When I try to downloan stat catalog updates, I only get:
    Error downloading star4:
    Erro creating SSL context ()
I uninstalled 15.1 and installed 15 and received teh same response. Reinstaled 15.1 but no change. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Try downloading them manually from this link: https://sourceforge.net/projects/stellarium/files/Extra-data-files/

There may be a few DLLs missing on your computer which have been installed on all developers' computers so we did never come across this situation. Does this procedure help?

If yes, we might consider adding them to our package if legally possible.

I confirm the same error with 0.15.1 (Win x64) on my Windows 7 Ultimate (x64) machine.
I also confirm gzotti's solution works.

From gzotti's suggestion, here are the steps I took to fix the problem:

    1) Go here: https://indy.fulgan.com/SSL/
    2) Download latest OpenSSL file.
    (I downloaded "openssl-1.0.2j-x64_86-win64.zip".)
    3) Open the zipped archive and find these two files:
    libeay32.dll
    ssleay32.dll
    4) Extract these 2 files to the main folder of your Stellarium installation.
    (For example: C:\Program Files\Stellarium\ )

Start Stellarium, and the star catalog updater should now work perfectly fine.

Thanks Austin for testing this! It goes to the FAQ/Troubleshooting on Launchpad for now. Note that some version of these libraries come with various programs, so many users likely have them installed somewhere.

I've repacked the installer of Stellarium - it should work properly now.

Any thoughts on Stellarium crashing when I zoom in on the sky? I’m new to Windows 10, 64-bit OS and never had this problem for the many years I’ve used the program.

Thanks for any help you can provide.
