Right.  Since 1.4a is a pre-release version of 1.4 this won't work, but
it will work once 1.4 is released.  This is the same as it was with the
last couple of 1.3 pre-releases.  I'm not sure but I think it has to be
this way for some numbering scheme to work on some platform.  Perhaps
Wesley can elaborate, or correct my thinking so that future pre-releases
support this feature.
