Linux Problems

I recently had a chance to test Startup Helper on Linux. It did not work very well at all.

Besides a few minor things, on one Linux version, starting a program didn't work. If you're getting a 'Failed to show URI' error, I'm aware of that and trying to find a solution.
On another Linux version, apparently the Desktop class (which is needed for launching programs) wasn't supported, even though Java 1.6 was installed. I don't know if that is because I installed Java wrong or because of something else, but I'm looking into this problem too.... read more

Startup Helper is now not just for me anymore

Simple Origins
I have been using various iterations of Startup Helper for a bit over six years now (I had to look that up, it surprised me too). I made the first versions when I was just learning how to program. Back then the only programming I could do was in Game Maker, so I made it with that. Obviously Game Maker isn't really suitable for making applications, but it worked well enough. Over the years I fixed some bugs, and added a feature here and there. I even did a complete rewrite at one point to make everything a bit more elegant (insofar as that was possible), bringing the whole thing up to version 2.0.
