What is the advantage or disadvantage of using the APPLICATION object
as opposed to writing a simple fastagi application? Is one the
prefered method over another?
I want to get started on the right foot.

The utility application class is basically just a convenience when all
you're doing in your application is StarPy code (which most of the
samples and my own applications are). It just encapsulates all the
setup machinery that I was duplicating across the various samples and
applications. The features are mostly just the optional setup stuff,
such as which port to listen on, what password to use, that kind of thing.
If you're integrating into a larger application you likely want to use
your application's similar services instead. If you have a one-shot
deployment you can probably just hard-code everything directly. All up
to you, really.
