It seems that everytime I run a process using process service and I do not ask for its output, STAF dumps that process's output to its own STDOUT and STDERR. Given that option DEFAULTNEWCONSOLE is ineffective on Unix, there seems to be no way to disable this other than redirect all of STAF's output to somewhere and get aggressive about managing its output. Is there a way to control how this is managed in STAF other than asking each user to make sure and redirect all of their output to somewhere so that my log file does not get clogged?
No, there's not currently a way to automatically redirect a STAF process's stdout/stderr to somewhere else (like /dev/null) on Unix (unless each process specifies to redirect every process's stdout/stder to /dev/null or somewhere). I agree it can be annoying as this can "clog up' STAFProc's stdout/stderr. Please open a feature request for this via https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=add&group_id=33142&atid=407384.
I opened Feature #3182764 for you at http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=3182764&group_id=33142&atid=407384. I'll add this feature to the plan for the next release of STAF (currently planned to be released at the end of March 2011).
