I am using Gap4 on Windows XP for assembly of a consensus sequence against a reference text file. After "finding internal joins", when I then try to invoke join editor, the system crashes and ultimately closes.
The error message that appears is a Windows error frame, AppName: wish.exe
Do you have any suggestions as to why this happens, or how I can fix it?
Which version is this? I'm aware of occasional windows crashes using Find Internal Joins using the 1.5.3 staden package release, but that particular bug was fixed in the 1.6.0 beta release. The Version file in the staden root directory (probably C:\program files\staden package) contains the version information incase you've forgotten.
Yes mine is the 1.5.3 version- I will try the 1.6 beta version and see if the problem persists.
Actually I've just discovered and fixed another (rather old) bug in Find Internal Joins which could in theory also lead to a crash. I've never observed it crashing though.
Of course this doesn't negate the fact that 1.6.0 will be more reliable to 1.5.3 for find internal joins (as the new bug I've found was in both).
