Project Update

Just a quick update, as it's been quiet for the last month or so.

Things at work, which were indirectly driving this project, have changed a bit over the last month. I'm still getting everything updated for a beta, but the planned GUI interface is getting pushed back. I should have documentation updated in the next week and beta 1 uploaded shortly thereafter.

My forays into GTK+/GNOME (for the GUI) should get started in the next month or so, I hope.... read more

ProtoBench Licensing

ProtoBench is released under two different licenses:

The "protobench" program proper (everything in src/) and comment and http plug-ins (plugins/comment.[ch] and plugins/http.[ch]) are GPL.

libprotobench (everything in protobench/) is LGPL.

This is to allow "closed" plug-ins to link the protobench library and still remain "closed", as they aren't linked to the protobench program itself. I do believe in open source and Free Software, but I've got applications for this of my own that I won't be at liberty to share.... read more

ProtoBench 0.1 Alpha 5 released

ProtoBench is an extensible, plug-in based benchmarking framework. Included is a plug-in for benchmarking and testing of web servers and cgi/jsp/servlet applications running on a web server with support for RFC-2965 cookies, basic authorization, crude SOAP data propogation, posting from files or script with configurable content type, and configurable/customised HTTP headers.

Alpha 5 is the final alpha release. I've worked out all of the pointer arithmatic bugs and stat display for the http plug-in. In about two weeks time I'll release beta 1 with better documentation and start working on a GTK+ front-end.

Alpha 4 bugs

Alpha 4 still has a bug in the stats array setup for the http plugin. I've fixed it, and there will be an alpha 5, probably to be released Friday this week.

The bug results in a segfault as the array is setup to point outside the bounds of the memory area allocated. 1 or 2 clients works reliably. 5 does not. 3, 4 may or may not.
