I'm fairly certain that what you're looking at is the open source programs that are bundled with
ESX (such as Samba and the DHCP server), NOT VMware's "bread and butter" ESX server itself.
If you want a free medium-duty server use their new Server beta, it's great!

I doubt it, because ESX is somewhat like a hypervisor in that it requires low-level access to the
hardware; it has its own kernel.
I tried to do something with the Server beta but could never get OpenSSI to work with DRBD. So I
gave up and installed Heartbeat.
