I'm trying to set up an openSSI cluster using RedHat 7.3 (glibc 2.2). Obviously I can't use the binary installation, since it depends on having RedHat 9 installed. I presume that openSSI can be built on older platforms (like 7.3), but it has to be built from source. I tried following the instructions in the "building from source" on the openSSI website (http://openssi.org/install.shtml), but I found the instructions apallingly terse. Beyond building the kernel the documentation says virtually nothing about the rest of the configuration that normally happens in an RPM-based install. Unpacking the source RPMs aren't of much use either -- all I end up with is a /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES directory full of hundreds of patches and miscellaneous packages, but no documentation saying how it should be put together. The best I could come up with was to patch all the packages with their corresponding patch files, compile and pray. I got useable binaries, but without directions showing how the binaries all get packed into a nice little netboot ramdisk, I'm basically stuck in the water. I really like the features that openSSI provides, and I really want to make it work. Am I missing some documentation somewhere? There's got to be more out there than what (http://openssi.org/docs.shtml) shows. Thanks! -- Paul Krizak 5900 E.
