Reported on the mailing list by Graham Menhennitt:
Hello srec users,

Firstly, let me express my sorrow at the loss of Peter. My sympathies to
his family.

I'm using srec 1.63 under Cygwin on Windows 7. I'm building a flash
image for a MSP430 processor consisting of 3 parts: a boot loader, an
application, and a serial number. The first two come from the output of
the compiler/linker. The serial number needs to be generated as part of
the flash programming. I have a shell script that does the image build
and flash programming. It takes a command line argument of the serial
number. The command that gets executed looks like:

srec_cat.exe BootLoader.s37 Miyagi.s37 -gen 0x1800 0x1804 -const_L_E

123456 4 -output flash.hex -Intel

(where 123456 is the serial number). But the hex file produced isn't
correct. If I reorder the parameters to:

srec_cat.exe -gen 0x1800 0x1804 -const_L_E 123456 4 BootLoader.s37

Miyagi.s37 -output flash.hex -Intel

(i.e. I put the -gen parameters at the start rather than the end), it
works correctly.

From reading the documentation, I can't see why the order matters. Can
somebody please tell me?

Thanks,
Graham

More experimenting and spelunking needed but it appears that when the generator argument is at the end, only the serial number and boot-loader components make it into the generated output.

    Interesting...
