I am using sloooow IMAP server via SquirrelMail. But SM
gets INBOX listing from IMAP server many time, so I
waiting minites for visit folders.
(my INBOX contains over 100 mails)

Our IMAP server is "Groupmax Mail-IMAP4rev1 server
ready (06-02/Nov 6 2001)", by Hitachi Inc.
Just "UID FETCH ... (FLAGS UID)" work fine but "UID
FETCH ... ( ... BODY.PEEK[HEADER.FIELDS(...)])" get slow.

I found $use_mailbox_cache option from the sourcecode,
but summary list appears like "unknown date, no subject".

I make patch for it, seems to good on just my environment.
My environment differ from default config.php is
$allow_thread_sort = false;
$allow_server_sort = false;

Still on this patch, INBOX listing occurs when first
visit for each folder after each login.

I'm pleasure if someone rewrite this patch fine or make
mailbox cache between logins.

    I can't speak immediately to this patch, and given the age of it, it may no longer be necessary. What I would like to suggest, if newer 1.4 releases aren't already faster for you, is to try 1.5.2, which has more speed improvements in this area. If you are still around and can comment, it'd be nice to clean up this patch if it is no longer needed. Thanks.
